Would you call after hours or wait until tomorrow? maybe TMI

DD has a UTI and has been on antibiotics. They told me to monitor her wet diapers. Well today she has pooped watery diapers 4 times. Twice back to back in the morning and twice back to back tonight. She normally poops only once, at most twice a day but that's rare. They've also been yellow (like bf poop) although it has lately been green (like FF poop). Would you call to ask the pedi if the change is due to meds tonight or wait until tomorrow? I'd hate to bother them at home if I'm just being super paranoid.

  • Antibiotics can cause diarrhea--all the good bacteria is out of her system as the anitbiotics kill all bacteria, good and bad.  Is she getting enough to drink?   Just make sure she isn't dehydrated. I think you're ok until morning, but if you don't get charged up the butt for after hours calls, I'd call anyway, just to ease my mind.

  • We went through a UTI early on.. sorry you are dealing with it. The antibiotics should clear things up pretty quickly =)

As far as the poop diapers... I wouldn't worry about the color so much. It is a good sign that LO is having them. But if you are concerned, it certainly doesn't hurt to call a nurse. They will at least ease your worries.

  • Hey I'm a pharmacist. And diarrhea or watery poop is normal with antibiotics in LO's, but there is a point where it becomes too much. At the point you are at, I would not call the pedi tonight but would call up there tomorrow. Antibiotics are hard on LO's digestive tract.

  • Thanks ladies. I'll call tomorrow.
  • Antibiotics are rough on adult bellies, even more rough on little tummies. Is she still feeding as normal? Making wet diapers? If she is and is acting like herself then I would wait until tomorrow. Have you tried to give her some yogurt? That always helps me out. Good luck!
  • when i worked in the peds clinic we told parents not to stress about color/texture unless they had more than 6-8 loose stools in 24hrs.

feed LO yougurt to help with restoring the good bacteria and maintain hydration.

    I wouldn't call
