I took Nathan to the pedi this afternoon because he has a nasty cough, fever, runny nose, and was wheezing. She diagnosed him with RSV, gave him a neb treatment in the office, wrote a script for a nebulizer at home (the company just dropped it off) and said we'll probably see you tomorrow with Joey. She did say that she was "letting us go home," but that he may get worse and we should go to the ER if that happens. Just now before motrin his fever was 102.5 Luckily at the office he sucked away on the neb during the whole treatment. Hopefully it will help and he'll get some rest tonight.
I feel so bad because our boys did not qualify for RSV shots this season... they were too old and didn't have enough risk factors. I swear we never take them out of the house... since November 1st they've gone out for Christmas to my brothers for 2 hours ( no children) and have been to doctor visits. That's it. We try so hard and they are still so sick )c:
Re: Nathan has RSV )c:
The albuetrol will work wonders! Lily had RSV over Christmas (such a bummer for her first Christmas!) and the nebulizer really helped make it pass quickly. A fever is very normal while trying to fight it off--tylenol and motrin really help. When he starts to feel better, the albuterol may make him a bit hyper, which happened with Lily.
We also use the Nosefrida snot sucker (www.nosefrida.com) per recommendation from some of the gals here a LONG time ago and I love it. It really does get the snot out which will help get over the RSV faster.
Lily was able to fight it off just fine at home. I was a nervous wreck and sad but she handled it like a champ. I hope your LO does the same!
Let me know if you have any questions about what all we did with Lily or if you just want to vent. There is nothing you could have done differently!!
((Hugs))
Oh no! I hope he feels better soon. I hope the nebulizer does the trick. Our boys didn't qualify for the RSV shots either.
Thank you so much for your advice below. It was very helpful
UGH, poor lil guy! I hope he gets over it quickly and that the rest of the family can avoid getting it too!
don't beat yourself up. There are germs everything. You do the best you can. The breathing treatments really hope and hopefully they fight it off quickly.
