Incurable Ear Infection!

DD has what seems to be the incurable ear infection.  It started as a double, then her right ear only.  After a week and a half on an antibiotic, her right ear was still infected and then her left ear was again too!  We took her back to the pedi yesterday for the fourth trip in two weeks because she is so fussy, her nose is awful, and she continued to scream holding both ears.  Yep, she still has a double ear infection, and the right ear is worse!  We have been on 5 antibiotics!!!  The pedi decided to do a series of rocephin shots.  She had two yesterday, one today, and we will go back for one more tomorrow.  Hopefully this will work.  She has never had one until around Thanksgiving, and now she just won't get well.  Has anyone else dealt with this???

Re: Incurable Ear Infection!

  • we have been fighting recurring ear infections too - so frustrating!  I did read about a natural treatment the other day but I haven't had the guts to try it.  It was basically sauteeing garlic in olive oil and then once it has cooled dropping the oil into thier ears.  I just can't stop thinking that this would just get all backed up and messy.  Here is a link.  If you are brave enough to try it let me know how it works!

  • I'm really late to your post but we battled a double ear infection for 8 weeks, went through 6 antibiotics. Omnicef was the only one that actually kicked it, but by then he got tubes. We had one more infection right after the tubes on one side but not one since and its been a month.

    good luck!

Yea, DD had a double ear infection around thanksgiving and we used amoxycillin for 10 days.  We're thinking now that the one in the right ear never went completely away, and we were back at the pedi the Monday before Christmas.  We then went to Omnicef, then Augmentin (allergic reaction to it), then Biaxin, and now doing the Rocephin shots at the pedi's office.  Did you guys ever get to the shots?
