FET Qs-IVF

DH and I conceived our 1st IVF attempt with the girls. Just thinking waaayyyy ahead (DH and i want more children, but not anytime soon!!) I have "unexplained infertility" factor (secondary amennhorea) and not sure if we'll have to go the IVF route again down the road, but in case we do,wanted to see if any of you would please share your FET experiences with me??

1.) What is the procedure like? i.e. how is it different than a fresh embryo transfer? What meds, if any, do you have to do prior to the transfer?

2.) Are your multiples a result of a SET (single emb. transfer)? If so, did they do ICSI?

3) What quality of embryo(s) did you transfer in the FET?I  3 of our embies were considered top grade embryos prior to IVF #1 and we obviously already used 2 of those (hence our girls).

4) How many FETs did you do before having a BFP?

Thanks for your responses!!  Any feedback is really appreciated!

Re: FET Qs-IVF

  • I'm newly pg with twins after a FET.

    1.  FETs are much easier than fresh cycles.  There are a variety of protocols to try but a very common one involves you taking estrogen starting on cd3.  You'll be monitored for a week or 2 until your lining reaches a suitable thickness (my clinic prefers 6-7 mm minimum).  Then, a few days before your ET you'll start progesterone.  After that, you'll continue progesterone until beta.

    2.  No.  We transferred 2 and they both stuck.  We did, however, use ICSI as well as assisted hatching.

    3.  Ours were "perfect blasts".  They were frozen on day 3, thawed, watched for 2 days, then transferred.

    4.  This was our 2nd FET.  Technically we got pg with the 1st one as well but it was a blighted ovum.  (We had transferred 3 embryos with that attempt.)

  • 1.)  It is SO much easier (physically and emotionally) than a fresh IVF cycle.  I took estrace starting CD2 and then added in PIO 5 days before transfer.  That's it!

2.)  We transfered 3 (!) but only 1 took (and split).  Yes, ICSI was done.

    3.)  3

    4.)  2

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
