Babies: 9 - 12 Months

stroller help needed

I am in my 2nd trimester.  I recently came to the US, and in my country we don't have as much stuff and choices for the baby.  Life is pretty simple.  People usually buy one stroller that lasts them till the baby does not need one.  When the baby is young, baby is carried in arms.

When I see the stuff here, my mind boggles and I dont know what to buy and how.  I tries looking up online but no luck.

Can someone help me with strollers? What kind do I need to buy? I understand there are different kinds- travel system, heavy strollers, lightweight strollers, umbrella strollers etc etc etc.

- I am petite and arthritic- I need something I could maneuver easily and that is not too heavy.

- I would prefer something thats not too expensive.

-I have a sedan so it will need to fit in the car.

- preferably something to keep baby stuff so that i dont have to lug it around with the baby.

Any recommendations on what I should buy? Do I need to buy a complete travel system? There are so many brands and so many types in each brand.....

Also, could anyone explain to me how different strollers work? What kinds are used for what? I know these are a lot of questions but any info you could provide me with would be very helpful

thanks a lot in advance.

Re: stroller help needed

  • i have a chicco stroller that i like a lot. i have used it for both kids and it is held up great and easy to use and light.

i bought the travel system b/c i needed the carseat and the stroller so it made sense to buy the 2 together.

when baby is small you can leave them in the carseat and snap it into the stroller and go. once they outgrow the carseat you can just use the stroller. the stroller reclines to baby can nap in the stroller.

it has a large basket under for all your stuff and the handles adjust if you are short, like me. it has a nice cup holder and a place to put your keys.

you don't have to buy new. check out craigslist. many moms sell their stuff once they are all done with it and you can save a ton of money! i buy a lot of my baby stuff second hand.

  • I have Rheumatoid Artritis and I needed a stroller that I could lift, open and use with ease.  All of the "travel systems" were too heavy and bulky for me... even the lightweight one.

I bought the Peg Perego Aria stroller.  It is only 9 pounds and soooo easy to open!!!  It also fits with a carrier... doesn't have to be the Peg Perego carrier.  For example, I have the Graco Snugride 32 carrier and it fits in the stroller, but doesn't click (which I  like better because I have a hard time unclicking the carrier).

Here's a link to the stroller.  I highly recommend it, although it's not great for newborns without the carrier because it doesn't recline completely flat.

    Good Luck.

Will I be able to use it with a newborn and a car seat?

You wont want to put the newborn in the stroller without the car seat, since the stroller doesn't recline all the way, the baby wont be able to support his/her weight.  BUT, you will be able to put the infant carrier car seat IN the stroller, just like a travel system.  The only difference, is that it wont snap... but it's very secure.

You can go to BRU and try it out!

  • thanks, someone is selling a new one in box for $120 on craigslist today. Maybe ill go to bru and try it out. thanks
