my dad is in the health food business and can get us a pretty good discount on organic foods. we are going to give ds organics for as long as possible and i have heard pretty good reviews for earth's best. anyone have any opinions on earth's best or any other baby organics? we are planning on driving to my dad's store this weekend so we can stock up on some stuff....ds will be starting solids at the end of the month. besides cereal, what kind of stuff can i go ahead and buy? what sorts of fruits and veggies?
Re: earth's best
We haven't tried Earth's Best yet... still trying to get through all the organic Gerber we bought initially. DS started with peas, squash, carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, and now he's on to bananas (his first fruit). The organic Gerber seems to be just fine.
lucky girl!
when we dont use my own purees etc...we go to Earths Best.
We've done most of the stage 1 and stage 2 foods except meat. I would get a good amount of stage 1 and stage 2. I think by stage 3, babies are usually eating finger foods... The oatmeal/rice/barley is good too... has no added stuff in it. DS loves the oatmeal... didnt care for rice cereal too much. The teething biscuts are a good grab too!
We aren't stricly organic, but I tried some of their stuff for the different flavor combinations. The boys loved them!
We started with rice cereal for a month, then moved into the 1st fruits and veggies. After a month on those, we started the 2nd foods. They're eating up a storm now!
My guys loved all the fruits and most of the veggies. Eli took a little while to like green beans and peas, but he loves those now and hasn't turned down anything else. Their favorites are anything with sweet potatoes!
We primarily use Earth's Best foods and like them a lot. We use the Oatmeal and Multi-Grain cereals, as well as the fruits and veggies. We started out with sweet potatoes, carrots, pears, bananas, apples, peas and added more from there. I have found that the multipacks offer a lot of combinations for stage 2 that I haven't seen in single jars in the store.
I say stock up as much as you can! The only worry would be if your LO doesn't like a certain food, but even still you should keep offering it for a while before giving up. My DS hated peas a first, but after 6 or 7 tries he tolerates it just fine now.
I'm jealous!
We do Earth's Best (when not using our home made purees).
I also buy and puree all organic:
Peas, sweet potato, bananas, carrots, brown rice, green beans, blueberries, pears, apples.
The one thing I will ALWAYS be strict on staying with organic is milk.
