DS is pretty much a full on cruiser these days. all he wants to do it stand and hold on to things and shuffle around. he has never crawled, not even an army crawl ever, so I was thinking he was probably going to just skip over it and go to walking. just curious if anyone else's LO decided to give crawling another chance once they had already gotten to the cruising point.
Re: once LO is cruising, is crawling a lost cause?
No some kids crawl after walking. It is a good idea to encourage a little crawling. We are discovering that there is some evidence that it develops a specific part of the brain. As long as they crawl at some point a little bit.
ETA: so you don't worry if LO goes straight to walking, many kids crawl as a part of playing. I got J a tunnel that folds up flat to encourage this type of play. Or encouraging pretend play imitating animals. I have never experienced a child to not crawl at some point.
This. Crawling and moving, for example, the left leg the same time as the right arm is important for children to do at some point. I wouldn't worry, I'd just encourage crawling.

I actually did some reading on this 2 nights ago and read that 1/3 of babies never even crawl- they go straight to walking. and 2/3 of babies don't ever do the traditional knee and hands crawl, they do other times like the bear crawl, army...etc.
Maybe that helps. I think I read it in WTE1st year.
In regards to the learning connections made with crawling, some follow up studies have shown that learning to skip later on makes up for some of the 'lost' connections of noncrawlers.
Most kids who walk first without crawling will soon figure out that crawling can be faster and will start after they walk.
