NTR: rocks in a sink - I don't get it

Please explain this to me.  I was at a restaurant and there were flat rocks in the bathroom sink.  I'm assuming for some sort of decoration?  Then I was at DH's friends house and they had the same kind of rocks in their sink.  Do these actually serve a purpose or are they for looks?  Sorry if this question seems strange...this is just a new thing for me!

  • One of the restaurants near me has rocks in the sink.  The sink is this weird, water trough looking job with a slit in the bottom and the rocks are over that slit.  I guess they think it looks artsy, I just wonder how they clean it and if it gets soap-scummy.  And what about toothpaste spit in a residential bathroom?  Ew!
