Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When did your LO start liking solids?

Jacob just doesn't seem into solids.  We've just started, but he still doesn't seem to like cereal and it's been about two weeks.  We've started bananas and you'd think we were poisining him.

I'm going to try sweet potatoes on Friday.

He's obssessed with the food we eat though. he lunges at it and grabs at it constantly.  He even grabbed the ham off my mom's plate at Xmas and started sucking on it like there was no tomorrow while we were taking a picture of everyone.

Sigh. This whole solids is harder than I thought it would be.

Re: When did your LO start liking solids?

  • It took a few days for C to "get" solid food.  We skipped cereal entirely and just started solid food when he was 6 months old.  Now he loves it and gets solid food for lunch and dinner.

  • DS still has days when he hates solids.  Most days he loves them.  It took about two months before he really got enthusiastic about them thought.  Before then he would eat them but make faces.

  • DS LOVES solids. We did cereal for a week or two and when he turned 6 months we started doing baby food. And i cant shovel food in fast enough. Maybe you need to pretend to eat it so that he'll want it?

  • It took awhile with Web, but now we can't shovel it in fast enough. We couldn't really get him to open is mouth in the beginning and had to get him to laugh to open it. But like I said, that was around 4 months. I'd say it took about a month for him to really get it.

I did do that and he ate a little more.  I think I just need to be more patient.  It's still really new to him.

  • Ry loves solids except avacado. He loves sweet potatoes.

    Poor Jacob. He'll get it.

  • she eats two meals a day, but always starts out by spitting it out and making a disgusted face. the only food she really loves are those baby cheetos. apparently she gets it from her mama. lol. she bangs on the table for more cheetos.
  • DD is iffy with cereals, her oatmeal has to be the perfect consistency for her to want to eat it.  Veggies, on the other hand, seem to be going over very well.  She really likes peas, squash, and sweet potatoes... which is all we've tried so far!  We give cereal in the morning and veggies for dinner.
  • We tried cereal for about 2 months and he never really ate much of it.  Veggies and fruits it took a few tries but he loves them now.

  • It has taken A a good 3 weeks to not push them out with her tongue. Hang in there, he should start soon.

  • Our LO is just now starting to warm up to solid foods. Don't stress about it too much, he's still pretty young.

This is a good way to get them to hate solids. You don't want to "surprise" them, you want them to WANT to eat it.

  • DD isn't taking to solids real well either. We started cereal, rice then oatmeal, at 4 mo and it was hardcore rejection so after about 3 weeks of nightly attempts (and a rash from our first veggie attempt) we stopped and decided to wait until 6 mo. Pedi gave us the okay to not give cereal, if she wouldn't take it, so we started with sweet potatoes, then squash. She acted like we were poisoning her. The pears, which she will sometimes eat. We just started bananas, which she seems to like so far, but even with them its about 10 bites and she is done. Fussy, grunting and refusing to open her mouth. At least its progress. I had no idea solids were going to be this hard. All of my friend's babies just shovel in anything you put in front of them.

  • We skipped cereal, and DS likes pretty much everything we've given him, except he wasn't a huge fan of avocado. Except when its mixed with bananas. And he loves, loves, loves, sweet potatoes. He eats more of it then anything else we give him.
