We've been active for just over a month, and we got a call that we have been selected by a birthmother!!! We are meeting with her and her sister and sister's financee on Thursday, and if that goes well the match will be official.
This is our first meeting with a BM and it is hard to not shout from the mountain tops with joy but I know that I really need to protect my heart.
For those of you that have been matched and have conquered being terrified, excited, anxious, happy, scared, etc all at the same time. How did you calm yourself down, and protect your heart just in case it didn't work out?
If all goes well and we move forward, we'll have a tax time baby, which couldn't be more perfect for me since I'm an accountant and work 60-80 weeks from January - March!
Any advice would be appreciated so that I can calm myself down, and not tell the world, let alone actually get some sleep!
Re: Wow!!! Help me not burst with excitement!
OMG congratulations! It looks like you and I are on almost the exact same timeline! We have been active for just over one month too, and got the same call today!!!!
I don't have any advice for you, but I am struggling with the same thing myself (how to be excited without being TOO excited). I can't wait to hear how your meeting goes on Thursday. It will be nice to have a "buddy" as we go through this process.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations! Just enjoy the ride and don't stress about what is out of your hands. :-)
How exciting!
I just wanted to say I am an accountant too, and busy season is kicking my butt right now too!
The nice thing about busy season, is my boss asked how much overtime above our required 55 hours a week do I want, and I said as much as you want to give me! He told me, "Beware of what you wish for". Last year I got 100 hours of overtime in the first three months of the year. This year he said to be prepared to double it since we laid off two auditors.
I look at it as, for each hour of overtime I work, that's 1 1/2 hours I can take off on top of my four weeks pto and six weeks PFL from the state for bonding time when the baby is born!
That is nice that you get overtime leave! We are on salary, so it doesn't matter if I work 40 or 70, I still get paid the same. We are expected to work at least 50 during busy season and a certain number of hours during the year, it doesn't matter how much you go over.
PAL/PGAL Welcome
Congratulations!
I am VERY lucky with the overtime at my firm! The first 80 hours of overtime go hour for hour towards two extra weeks of paid time off, giving us a total of 5 weeks a year. Any over time above and beyond the first 80 hours is paid at time and a half. I'm very aware that most CPA firms don't do this, and I LOVE my firm, my job, the people I work with, the flexibility, the family friendliness, and everything else it comes with.
When I told my boss about the possible match and that it may interfere with a client engagement, he smiled and shook my hand and said, "We'll figure it out with the client, the most important thing is you may be getting a baby!". Where else do you find an employer like that?!
