s/o Preschools ?

Anyone have any good advice on how to pick a preschool. I wasn't going to do preschool until Pre-K, but decided yesterday, that I want to put DD in preschool, or we may just drive each other crazy.

There are a few programs in my area, that I really like, but I can't justify the cost. I really want something Montossori style, but no one really offers that around me, that is in my price range.

I have the pre-K school narrowed down, but that will be for 2011.

  • Whoever you choose, make sure its really 'preschool' that they are teaching and not just daycare.  In my line of work I see all the time that people like to call their daycare a 'preschool' because they generate more money this way.  A preschool should have lessons and work with your child on specific topics.

The one I want to take Megan to in Sept is Montessori, the program is 1/2 or full day (we like the 1/2 day) and they evaluate your child and then make a plan as to where your child is and where s/he can grow.  I really like this approach especially since they aren't pushy, because that is not what I'm looking for.

Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise. image

  • DD goes to a coop preschool and has since her 1st birthday. It is attached to our community college here in town (which I think is the case with most coop preschools) and our program offers 3 types of classes.

THe toddler class which is ages 1-3  one day a week and the parents stay with the kids, and then the 2  day class which is 3/ and 4 year olds where the kids have one day with there parent and one day with out they, and the 3 day class 4 and 5 years olds where the kids go 2 days with out there parent and 1 day with there parent.

Each location is probably a little diffrent, however I think most of the coops follow a similar setup.

We really like it has helped DD with interacting with other kids and it is really cheap with us I pay 30.00 (however that is Moses Lake prices) a month for her and I get college credits also.

    good luck with you search

  • My bff is a member of the MOMS Club of Olympia and is helping organize their preschool fair... I am not sure of the date since I am not involved with it but maybe contacting them thru their website can give you some info

My friend sent me a spreadsheet from their 2008 fair to refer to (the little girl I nanny is in preschool)  It has a nice sized listing of preschools in the area and some info about them, I can forward the document to you if you want, just let me know your email.  Also, I have only heard FANTASTIC things about Sparkleberrys.

    Good luck!!

That is interesting, because I am President of the MOMS CLub of Lacey and heard nothing of a Preschool fair from Olympia this year. I will definately contact them.

Sparkleberries is an EXCELLENT program, except it's out of our price range for preschool.

  • We love our coop. Logan did it at three and four and Liam is now in his 2nd year. Ours is through Edmonds Community College. We have made many long term friends with the families in Logan's class. If you have specific coop ?? let me know. Most of them are run the same. You have smaller tuitions in exchange for working a day in the classroom, attending parent meetings, and volunteering for things. WE LOVE OUR COOP!!
