Ive started pumping during the day and breastfeeding at night.,,ive built up a freezer stash but when are you supposed to use it? Should I be using some now and stashing the fresher milk that I pump?
Since I don't have that much still left in the freezer, I only do this every other week now, but on Sunday I "rotate" the stash, so I pull out the frozen milk and freeze whatever I get on that day. This way I cycle through and nothing stays in the freezer for more than a few months.
At first I was storing whatever DD would eat in the next 2-3 days in the fridge and the rest would go directly in the freezer. Now, I have started using the frozen milk and just freezing what ever I pump. For me it just came down to needing to make room for more milk because my first freezer stash was in glass jars and they were taking up a lot of room.
I think it just depends on how you want to do it. There is info out there that says your BM changes composition as LO grows based on their needs but when EP'ing I am not sure how/if that happens. Because of this I believe it comes down to just making sure that you use the milk prior to the recommended expiration date of frozen BM.
I'm planning on using my freezer stash once I've stopped pumping.
This is what I plan on doing. I won't be able to pump as much when I go back to work, so we'll start using the frozen BM at that point and freezing what I pump then. I'll be going back to work when DS is just under 4 months old. I'd love to be able to keep giving him a good deal of BM until he is 6 months old. It may not happen that way, but that would be my ideal scenario.
