High-Risk Pregnancy

Bleeding & Pregnancy...

I have a unicornate uterus and I am considered "high risk" throughout my pregnancy.  Today I started bleeding, a lot, just not spotting but actual bleeding.

I immediately called the doc and went in for another u/s. ( I just had an u/s on Sat.)  Everything looked good and the lil' bean is actaully 3 days bigger than what it was on Saturday, so it's growing. But unforunately, I am still bleeding...

Has anyone expereinced something like this?  I am currently on "pelvic rest" until the bleeding stops.

Re: Bleeding & Pregnancy...

  • I just had a big bleed and passed pretty large clot this past Thursday.  I woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and had a huge gush of blood.  I went to the ER and both babies were fine.  They think my bleeding is due to one of the babies placentas being low lying.  The bleeding has stopped since and I am now on bedrest for a week.  I know first hand how scary it is to see bleeding during pregnancy. I was so afraid I was having a miscarriage.  I hope the bleeding stops soon for you.  Get lots of rest and make sure you drink plenty of water.

  • I had two episodes of bleeding early on in my pregnancy, and everything was fine both times.  They think it was just the placenta failing to fully attach.  The second time was heavier and it took a while to totally stop, I had brown spotting for a long time.

That bleeding has nothing to do with why I'm now high-risk; I now have a shortening cervix.  I had no blood after 10 weeks and no spotting after 12.

  • I had a bad bleeding/clotting (gushing blood) experience on x-mas eve and it has continued on and off since.  They think it's a subchorionic bleed. So I'm on bedrest for now. I know how terrifying it is to see that blood and I'm sending you lots of T&P!  Glad baby is doing okay!
  • I just posted a similar question on the first tri board and was lurking here and saw your post. I went to the bathroom today and there was a "gush" and heavy, bright red bleeding that has not yet stopped. I was sure I was m/c again. I went for an emergency u/s which thankfully showed everything was OK with the LO. But, they could not see anything obvious to explain why I was bleeding. They did mention I might have a slight heart-shaped ut, but said that was irrelevant to the current bleeding. So scary and frustrating.
  • I just answered your post below, but this made me think of something else...

Are you being seen by an actual high-risk doc (perinatologist or maternal-fetal medicine specialist)?  If not, I would definitely rec. asking your regular OB for a referral!
