Reglan questions

I'm thinking about asking for a script for Reglan.  I went from pumping 5 oz per session to about 1 oz.  While at work I pump 2 or 3 times depending on my schedule and I BF when I'm at home.  Since I'm not pumping much anymore, I also try pump in the morning after her feeding and after the baby goes to bed.  Soo much work one bottle of milk.

Anyway, for those that took Reglan, how fast did it work?  I've heard you aren't supposed to take it for more than a few weeks so did your supply drop as soon as you stopped taking it?

I guess I can be happy I made it almost 6 months!

Re: Reglan questions

  • I am in the same boat as you except that I have always EP'ed--at right around 6 mo. I started having supply issues. I just went to my dr. last week and explained my sitution (only pumping about 1/2 as much as I used to--supply dropped super quick in about a week), and she gave me a 2 week rx for reglan. I tried everything, including mothers milk tea, fenugreek, and extra pumping, with nothing working that well. This did work for me--I went from getting 26 oz per day, down to to about 15 oz per day, back up to right around 24 oz per day. I've been taking it for six days (no side effects at all so far), so not sure if it will go back down or not. I'm thinking about ordering domperidone as my dr. will not refill the reglan (only should be taken for a short period of time).

    GL!!

Will baby #3 be another girl?

  • I have two friends that took it. The first was fine and had an increase. The second had a huge increase, up to 7 oz per side, but she said it made her feel crazy so she stopped taking it. When she stopped her milk dried up and she was no longer able to BF. Not sure how common her reaction is though since our other friend was fine. Have you tried anything else to up your supply first?

  • I would try everything else first (you may have) because the FDA has a block box warning on it because it may cause TD (a "parkenson's like" disorder) that's perminant.

If you do take it, up your pumping at the same time to give your supply a double whammy.

Yikes!  This is what I'm scared of.  I have tried fenugreek, mothers milk, pumping more, lots of water, etc.  I'm actually wondering if my pump might not be functioning properly.  It seems like the suction hasn't been as strong and I've been working with Lansinoh, but I've found their customer service pretty stinky.  They sent me some replacement pieces but still trying to get ahold of them about replacing the motor.

  • Try domperidone instead.    You can get it at www.inhousepharmacy.com
