Washington Babies

Very disappointed (long)

Well, as I posted this morning, today was my first appointment.  My due date was moved one day to August 17, which is more consistent with my LMP.  That makes me 7w6d today.

My midwife tried to see the baby on the regular ultrasound, but it's just too early to be able to see it.  I was told the transvaginal was by appointment only, so no look at the baby or heartbeat for us.

Now I have to wait 3-4 more agonizing weeks until my combined screening to see the baby.  Just fantastic.  Three or four more weeks for me to worry if there's actually a baby, if the baby has a heartbeat, etc.

I thought about going to Phillips for an ultrasound, but since I'm already going to be out of the office for three doctor's appointment in the next month (our busiest of the year in my office) I'd have to tell my boss and I just don't feel ready to do that yet.

Oh, and I get to have the 1-hour glucose test right after the bat because of my weight.  And they only want me to gain 15 pounds.  That should be interesting.  My own fault, though.

And...I ran into the sister of a friend at the office.  So much for keeping this pregnancy a secret.

Thanks for making it this far.  I'm just so disappointed and upset that I don't have any confirmation there is healthy, growing baby in there.

Re: Very disappointed (long)

  • That's a total bummer about not getting to see the baby. Hopefully the next few weeks won't be too rough for you until you finally get your ultrasound!

  • Hugs lady. I totally understand the disappointment. But you do have a little bean in there. A little bean that is making you very sick. And your little bean will be so active and fun to watch in 3-4 weeks. You'll see.

  • I am sorry you didn't get to see the little bean.  And I am sorry your doc wouldn't order a vaginal ultrasound since she couldn't see it/hear it.

As far as the weight it is possible, I gained 15 with Mason, and 5 of that was my last month on bedrest.  So far I know I will be passing that mark with this one, I am up 9 already.

  • I'm so, so sorry you didn't get to see your LO! I'm sure everything is just fine, even though I know it is hard not having a visual confirmation! Hopefully you can keep as busy as possible these next few weeks and the time will fly by!

  • I only gained 15lbs as well, but I was SO sick so that "helped"....?

I'm sorry you didn't get to see Bean, but you will soon! You've got a baby in there! Believe it momma!

  • I'm sorry you didn't get to see the baby!  That is a real bummer!

I have to say though I think that its odd that they are making you do a 1 hour glucose already!  I've seen pics of you and I think you look pretty good and you just lost a bumch of weight!  I was pretty overweight when I had Cruz and they never made me do that nor did they give me restrictions on weight gain. though I lost about 15 in the beginning and then gained that plus 5lbs back in the end.

  • I'm sorry! We didnt get to hear the heartbeat at our first appt either b/c of it being too early, and it was really hard to wait. But it will go by quickly! GL!

  • Aww, hugs. I know how you feel. They did do a vaginal u/s for me at 7 weeks, and then another one two weeks later since I had a history of m/c, so I totally understand the worry about whether there is really a healthy, growing baby in there. Those two weeks between the ultrasounds were the hardest two ever.

And I only gained 15 pounds, too. I threw up until week 22, so that had a lot to do with it.

    Hang in there, Misha!

  • Thats a bummer.  At least she tried though.  And I think she says that to everyone.   I was only 10lbs heavier this time than last and she said the same to me about the early screening and the 15 pounds.  I told my new office this and they didn't see why I needed it quite yet.  Sooner than normal due to my situation, but not that early.

Did she measure you and tell you if you were on track with ute size?  That should give you some reassurance.  When you do go for the NT scan, you will love the office that it is done in (Maternal Fetal Medicine, my new office).

  • Oh that is so disappointing!!!  I'm sorry you didn't get to see your bean.  I know how you feel about wanting to be able to see some proof. that there really is a baby in there.  Maybe you can tide yourself over with a few extra pregnancy tests.  Smile

Oh yeah, she was great about giving it a go.  I know it's not her fault.  She didn't measure my uterus, although she said it felt enlarged and that everything else appeared fine.  I think once I get my blood test results, I will feel better.

I know I have no reason to be concerned and as my mom reminded me, she never got any ultrasounds!

  • Stupid bump keeps eating my responses...

I'm so sorry sweetie.  I know how excited you were, and I know how reassuring that first u/s can be.

I tried to tell myself that most miscarriages have clear and distinguishable symptoms, and that as long as I wasn't experiencing those, things were 99.99% likely to be going well.  I know you know this, but try to relax and enjoy having such a special secret between you and DH [as long as that girl keeps quiet!].

    Hugs.

  • Aw, Misha, I'm so sorry that it didn't go as well as you hoped.  That sucks that they weren't able to see the baby but I'm glad they at least tried.  I was really shocked at us being able to see ours so I  tend to think now that I was probably the exception and not the rule, so I'm sorry if I gave you false hope. :(  I have to have the early glucose test too and need to gain a small amount of weight too so I feel your pain on those.  But I know that your baby is doing great in there and it will be such a special and emotional feeling when you get that first u/s and I hope the time will just fly until then.  Zombie hugs atcha, girl. • So frustrating! I think you deserve an extra awesome U/S next time for sure. I hope the next couple weeks go by quickly.
  • I am so sorry :(  I know it's really difficult in the early days.  I panicked a lot too, that being said I have complete faith you have a beautiful growing bean in there!!

  • Oh, I'm so sorry it didn't go as you had hoped.  As the ladies have said, you have so many symptoms (and several HPT's) to prove you have a little one growing.  I hope the next weeks fly by for you and you get to see the baby next time!  Hugs!!

  • So sorry you didn't get to see your little bean today :(  The next few weeks will go by quickly though!

And if you haven't already, I would contact Phillips...  it took a few weeks before they called me for an appointment - just so you have all the paperwork filled out and are ready to go once you have time and they call :)

  • Thanks very much, everyone!  I am feeling better and looking forward to scheduling the combined screening today so I can start to the countdown to when I get to see my little bean. =)
  • You know, I think it's weird they're worried about glucose and 15 pounds already...

I'm WAY overweight - was with Madelyn and will be if I get pregnant again, no matter how hard I try to loose between now and then - and my OB didn't give me any definate lectures and just watched my blood sugar.

I totally understand your disappointment - and mirror what the other girls say....if you're really sick and have no other negative signs, it's all good good good...but I am completley neurotic about these things and tooootally understand wanting to see the bean NOW.

And - do call Phillips, it will take them a bit and you can always turn them down if you don't want the appointment :)

  • I totally feel your pain. When I went to my first appointment at 8 weeks, they did no ultrasound, no listen for the heartbeat....nada. I was SOOOO disappointed, I almost cried right there in front of the doctor. I too had to wait another 3 weeks for my screening ultrasound, and those were the most anxiety filled 3 weeks of my life!

However, it was so incredibly worth it when we finally did get to see the little munchkin in there bouncing and kicking around. It was the best thing we've ever seen, and we were both reduced to tears within the first 20 seconds of seeing baby!

We didn't even get to hear the heartbeat at that appointment either, but it was reassuring to see it thumping away on the screen. I bought a doppler about a month ago so we could hear it whenever we wanted.  :)
