PTing boys on a kids potty

so my DS just made my day by going peepee on his potty but I think I might have missed a big step. are your sons sitting on the kids potty or standing in front of it? he was sitting and thus not a single drop made it in, it went straight to the floor in front of him.

We started out sitting.

Most free standing potties have attachable penis guards.

Another option is to teach him to point it down.

 

It's always tough because when they do miss and you've got pee spraying everywhere it's almost impossible not to scream or react negatively.

Nothing killed me more than saying "HOORAY!!!" while pee was spraying all over the bathroom.

He stands at daycare, because they have kid-size porcelain toilets.  He leans forward and places his hands on the raised seat.  So he's standing at an angle towards the potty.

At home he's not tall enough to do this yet, and the stools slide out from under him when he leans so far forward.  So at home and in public, he sits. 

We just made it a habit of having him point it down every time he sits.  Before I pick him up to sit him on the potty I start reminding him to point it down, point it down!  (We say wee-wee, but insert your own penis phrase here.  I know many people use the term penis.)  Now he does it every time.  You just about have to, because even if he has to poop, he inevitably pees too - whether he intended to or not!  lol.
