XP: Anemia anyone?

Did anyone have anemia with their pg? I'm beginning to wonder if I am anemic because of how tired I am all the time. I literally could sleep all the time! We went to bed around 10pm last night, and I didn't get out of bed until 9am, with the exception of J's milk cup at 5am. And I could've stayed in bed easily!

That can't be normal. I was super energetic at this point with J, and I don't think I can blame the difference on chasing a toddler around any more. I definitely like my sleep, and it's a challenge keeping up with J, but I don't do enough to get THIS tired! I'll be at the OB tomorrow, and will definitely have them check, though.

Any suggestions/comments/similar stories?

Re: XP: Anemia anyone?

  • Oh yeah, with both pg's, and seemingly whenever I'm not pregnant as well. With my first pregnancy my OB was even considering a blood transfusion because my hemoglobin was getting so low. With this pregnancy I've tried to be more diligent w/ taking my iron supplements. Definitely call your OB to see what they suggest. Anemia is super common in pregnancy. Good Luck!

  • yes with both girls...I took Slow FE...
  • Well, I've heard that every pregnancy is different and the symptoms can vary a lot.  Having said that though, I was exhausted during the first trimester of my first pregnancy and I did end up being low in iron so I supplemented.

I'm exhausted again with this pregnancy and at my first appointment I asked my doctor if I should just start the extra iron now since I was low last time and she said yes.

I take Floradix.  It's a liquid supplement that you take twice a day.  Supposedly it shouldn't constipate you like some iron supplements can.

  • I am.  It's really common in women, especially during pregnancy.  Generally you're tested for it around the same time as your glucose challenge test.  I have to take two iron pills a day, what fun!
