triplet moms - shower timing?

I've been telling people who want to throw me showers that they need to be done in January, when I'll be 24-27 weeks. At first I wasn't even going to allow any showers before the babies were born b/c I was so paranoid, but since things are going so well and I'm so close to 24 weeks I'm feeling a little safer. (plus it's fun playing with my registries!). I know I'll be huge and uncomfortable, and will run the risk of being on bedrest, during that timeframe, but I figure it's either got to happen this month or after the babies are born, b/c I can't imagine being able to tolerate a shower after 28 weeks, and I'm sure to be on bedrest by that point!

any thoughts?? what worked for you?

Re: triplet moms - shower timing?

  • 1.)  I am not a triplet mom, and

    2.)  I think I am a wimp  Wink but

I am so glad my first shower was no later than 28 weeks.  By my shower at 29 weeks, I was pretty uncomfortable.  My advice would be to schedule them as close to 24 weeks as possible so you can actually enjoy it and not be too uncomfortable during it.

  • not a triplet- but a mom who missed her shower for her singleton b/c she was in the hospital- and that SUCKED.

My friends were kind enough to throw me a "sprinkle" shower for the twins - which i wanted to be very early because i was so afraid to miss another shower.  they had it at 28w - but i would have been happier if it was even earlier.

I'd do it ASAP for peace of mind :)

  • Not a triplet mom either but mine shower is scheduled in a few weeks. I'll be right around 28 weeks. The timing wouldn't have worked because of the holiday season, but I wish it was scheduled for an earlier date. I'm now on bedrest and while the docs are taking a wait and see approach, I'm afraid I won't be able to go. Sad

Definitely do it sooner than later!

  • I know...I know. I am not a triplet mom either but my shower is going to be in 2 weeks. That would put me just over 27 weeks. I'm trying to avoid being on bedrest or having babies after shower...

  • I had mine at just over 23 weeks. I wanted to have it on the early side so I would not be too huge and grumpy and in case I couldn't make it to one later due to bed rest or whatever. I was lucky I had it when I did at 25 weeks I went into the hospital for the rest of my pregnancy.

  • Had my really early. I know my dr wanted my to slow down after 24 weeks and no traveling after 20 weeks. We lived 8 hours away from family at the time so my shower was around 19 weeks. I was on full bedrest by 24 weeks, so for me I'm so glad it was early. And we got almost everything we needed.
  • You need to get them done asap. My first was at 19 weeks, 2nd at 22, third at 24 and 4th at 26. I was in the hospital for a week between the 3 and 4th. And I was about to die at the 4th one. I think the summer heat helped do me in. It was like 90 degrees for my last 3 showers!

whew - I'm glad it's winter! I'm so hot all the time anyway I can't imagine being out and about in 90 degree heat!

guess I need to tell my friends to get planning...

  • I had my first shower at 24 weeks, and I was already on bed rest. So I basically sat in a chair with my feet up, and went and laid down throughout. It was not a very enjoyable day.  The second shower was planned for 2 weeks later, but 2 days after my first shower I was hospitalized until the babies were born so we had a small one when I was feeling up to it, but the babies were still in the hospital. :( I was huge and uncomfortable, so  I would recommend you have it soon, or wait until after the babies are born.  Glad to hear you are doing so well, keep it up mama! :)
  • My shower was at 22 weeks.  I thought it was early, but was so happy that it was because I went on bedrest at 23 weeks 5 days for PTL.
