We started Dylan on Rice Cereal last Monday (he has had it 4 times now, he
didn't have any last night) and we noticed yesterday morning that he
has an eczema like rash on his thighs and tonight noticed that he has a
bunch of little red dots up the right side of his body. We bought the
add water rice cereal that has skim milk powder in it so I'm assuming
he is reacting to the milk in it. Does anyone have any experience with
something like this? What did you do? TIA
Re: Anyone have a LO with a milk allergy?
Claire had an eczema like rash around her mouth and commonly broke out in hives on her legs. This started around 1 year old. We went to an allergist who did a skin test, but found no allergies at all. I kept a food diary of everything she ate for weeks and it clearly showed that anytime she had dairy, the rash and/or hives would present itself. The allergist said our observations were more telling than the test results so we took ALL dairy out for one year. When she turned two, we reintroduced dairy, but she still got the rash. We tried again when she was 26 months and she had no problems and still has no problems with dairy.
Keira started a rash on her face at 17 months. We still can't figure out what the cause of it is. I took dairy out and had no change in the rash. Took her to an allergist and no allergies were found. The allergist doesn't feel that Keira's rash is food related, but rather something that is coming in contact with her skin. We are right now experimenting with different detergents, soaps, etc. We'll see what happens!
my daughter has a severe milk sensitivity- though i'm not sure its exactly an allergy. (we just know from giving her fortifier in the nicu.)
we won't be giving her cow's milk until she's old enough to drive. haha! we recently started just letting her play with food, trying to teach her the spoon eating thing... with rice cereal at first. (we switched to sweet potatoes and will soon be on avocados. i've read the rice cereal is high in carbs, empty cals when you're actually trying to feed them on baby foods primarily. since she's still getting most of her nutrition nursing, i'm not overly concerned yet.) i was worried about adding milk to the rice cereal, so i used breast milk. my m-i-l suggested i try rice milk. i guess it makes sense- right? rice cereal, rice milk? haha.. we haven't tried that yet.. but we'll give it a shot soon.
good luck!
