Breastfeeding

Did I do this right?

I pumped earlier today, and got a bit over 2 oz.  I don't want to freeze it yet because I'd like to wait till I have 4-5 oz.  I remember reading somewhere that when I combine milk from different sessions they should be same temp.

So I left the milk in the pump on the counter, figuring at my next feeding session, I would just pump again and it would combine into that same bottle then I could freeze it.  Is that right?

Should I have put it in a bag in the fridge then stuck the pump in the fridge after my next feeding then combined the two cold collections to freeze?

Does it not really matter?  Sorry if this doesn't make sense.

Re: Did I do this right?

  • I'd put it in the fridge just bc milk shouldn't stay out for longer than a few hours at a time and I never let it stay out unless I'm out and about. If you pumped into the same one an hour or two later, then I think it's fine.

  • My medela book says you can add just expressed milk to refrigerated milk - you just can't add more milk to that which has already been frozen. hth.
