going back to work soon & thawing BM...

sooo im going back to work for a few hours next week and want to start using some of my old frozen milk from December.. i was thinking id take three bags out and defrost them in a cup of warm water the night before i go to work and then pour them into bottles so DH can easily feed LO..

i guess my question is, is it okay to thaw BM in warm water and then place in the fridge for up to 24 hrs? cause when i tried to thaw my BM in the fridge it was still slushy after 2 days and i just ended up throwing it away! Embarrassed

  • I wouldn't warm it until you're ready to use it. I just put the bags in the fridge the night before to start thawing out. Then I put the bags in a cup of microwaved water to finish thawing and warm up to the right temp. It really doesn't take long, only about 5-10 minutes.

  • I always defrosted the milk bags in a sink of warm water till they got slushy-then poured them into bottles for daycare.I think it is totally fine to do that

  • I don't thaw until right before I'm going to use them - that way if you don't use them, they are still fine in the freezer.  I find it really easy to just thaw frozen milk under warm running water - it only takes a few minutes and then you're only thawing what you need.
