Have you tried Target? We have a regular Target in my area so they only sell regular bedding set but I went to a super Target [has the grocery store and everything] and I found that you can buy everything for the nursery as seperates. So instead of buying a bedding set with the bumper, sheets, comforter, and mobile all the exact same theme you can mix and match and buy the bumper seperatly...
I hate themes too, so I went with this one from Target:
I guess dots/stripes is technically a theme, but I found it was easier to find accessories for the nursery that weren't so matchy-matchy.
I also really like this set, but they didn't have it in stock when I was looking to buy:
"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world." - Jack Layton
I dont' know what I'm having yet. I have to wait another week and a half but I've beening looking at bedding to order. Plenty of girl options but boy options...none I've really liked so far. I just want something nonthemed, not busy and blue.
We went with this Restoration Hardware Baby and Child bedding. It is reallu good quality and I love it! Plus they have coupons for 20% off your total purchase there a lot.
I agree with all of the advice above and I understand the theme issue because I feel the same way. I am going with a simple blue and white pattern and I think simple patterns or mixing with solids give a classic look that isn't cheesy. Good luck!
Re: Why is boy bedding...
I know.. some of it is awful too. I was looking at boy bedding while pg (convinced i was having a boy but WRONG)
Serena & Lily have really cute boy patterns that are non-themey. Mostly plaid, stripes, and baby masculine patterns. I love Rex.
