We are headed to Target in a bit to pick up the closetmaid 9 cube storage units that are on sale. I have a couple questions.
1. Do they come with wall anchors? DS is a big climber and I can totally see him trying to scale Mt. Toy Shelf.
2. How high are they? I was thinking that we could put a couple toys on the top. Maybe park some of his trucks up there.
3. How did you organize using a unit like this one? I was planning on getting some of the fabric bins so we can have one bin for cars, one for bristle blocks, one for mr. potato head, etc. Did you use bins in every cube? or do some of the the cubes just have a toy in them?
4. I want to label the bins to help teach him where to put things back and to make it easier to find what he is looking for. I know we are going to have to work on this with him and give it time. I was thinking printing up a picture of cars, printing it out on cardstock, laminating it, and tying it to the handle of the bin. Am I crazy? DH thinks I am.
5. 1 unit should be enough? right? Or do you find that you need more than 1? I'm thinking that if we have 2 shelves we might have too many toys out all at once.
Re: how many cube storage units?
We have one in our living room.
Here are a couple of pictures with it in the background, to give you an idea of how it looks. Our didn't come with wall anchors. We bought canvas bins for 4 of the cubes. I'm 5'8" and it comes to about my hip bone. The labels for the bins is a good idea. I kind of keep similar type toys in each one too. We store toys that are too big for the cubes on top of the unit with no problems.

From December (we've since rearranged it a little to take out the old toys and clutter on top, and add the new toys he got for Christmas):
