Sooo, I hate hate hate the idea of wasting milk, especially while I have a low supply.
However, we are visiting good friends tonight and sampling their homebrew Imperial Stout, which I am very excited about (and I do plan on drinking more than one every two hours). Given my current supply issues, I really am leaning towards pumping once or twice tonight...probably once around 8 when J usually goes to bed, and again when I get home.
I will just cry as I pour it down the drain...
Re: WWYD: Pump and Dump?
**Im going out tonight to a local bar and plan on pumping in my car in the parking lot at leeasst twice...not for supply...not because of drinking but because these stupid boobs are HUGE and when Im not around my ds for a few hrs they are insanely huge and painful. Pumping in the car on new yrs is something I never thought Id do lol***
There's no reason to dump it. Even if you were absolutely hammered only 2% of the alcohol is in your milk. It's absolutely fine to store it.
So pump and save it. Have fun!
here's what i do when i don't want to waste milk, but i've been drinking- i mix it with a whole bunch of milk from when i was not drinking- it will be like 1/6th drinkydrink milk and 5/6ths regular milk. i figure it's diluted enough to not really matter. and she never acts any different from it. my pedi says it's fine.
If you are hammered you should not feed/nurse your baby that milk until the alcohol is out of your system. No, you don't have to pump and dump and you can't wait until it's out of your system but if it will be a while and you want to keep up your supply, then you can pump and dump. From my experience, one missed pumping hasn't affected my supply.
Hmmm...now this or the test strips I may try.
I don't know where the source is from, but everything I've read says hammered= not OK milk for baby. Regardless I am not comfortable with that personally.
Thanks for the help, ladies! I don't plan on getting hammered, but given my tolerance after barely drinking for the last year, I am pretty sure DH will be driving, not me! I drink more than one per two hours and I am definitely not driving/breastfeeding material.
the thing with these is they are SUPER sensitive. I will be absolutely sober (and drive without thinking twice) and it will still detect alcohol in my milk. I cant feed it to them in good conscious so I dump...but I prefer not to use them and go by the rule "safe to drive, safe to nurse"
