N is EBF. She would make these loud gulping noises while eating, and latch on and off constantly (and often violently, bc she was in pain). Her burps just sounded acidy to me (I know it sounds weird, but I could totally tell). And she would scream bloody murder through every feeding. It was like eating was painful.
She did not spit up though, so I guess she has silent reflux. We give her Zantac twice a day.
She was also colicky and gassy, and I have to limit dairy and a few random foods but that's about it.
My son began throwing up a lot. Not spitting up, but literally thowing up an entire meal, it would come out of his mouth and nose, until one day he did this at every meal for the day. So i called the doc and they had me bring him in right away. There was initially a concern it was something more serious but after we established that wasnt the case, my doctor believed it was acid reflux. My LO would also the back arching that is tell tale sign of acid reflux, he woudl also get fussy for no apparent reason sometimes, which mighthave been from the pain of the reflux. My LO is EBF and is now on Zantac.......he throws up less and seems less fussy, but still occasionally has some pain from it. I havent really altered my diet much since the medicine seemed to help.....but you could avoid eating the typical acid reflux inducing food and see if that helps.....
I didn't have 1 single clue he had it and the pedi diagnosed it. He hardly ever spits up but will occasionally throw up his whole meal. I don't even know the name of the medicine we give him but it's a liquid twice a day. I haven't altered my diet as the medicine helps but he will cough cough cough then try to cough and then scream bloody murder like it's burning his throat if he hasn't had his medicine. I give him a few sips of milk and he's good for a few minutes until he coughs again. (I learned all of this when I was out of town and didn't have his reflux medicine.)
We FF (my milk never came in). DS started showing symptoms at 1w old. He was arching his back during and after feedings; fussing a LOT during feedings; gulping randomly during the day; screaming (like bloody murder) in his car seat; when he was hungry it was this horrible blood curdling scream instead of normal crying; and he was cluster feeding big time.
We're on Zantac 0.6ml three times daily. That has helped tremendously. I owe the maker of zantac my life!
ETA: oh yeah, and the throwing up....like open his mouth and acid smelling throw up would just pour out. It was HORRIBLE!
