Hi, got a question just recently my nips started getting red and a little hot. Is this the start of Thrush? DD has been chomping on my nipples a bit because three teeth are starting to come through but I wouldn't think it would account for the nips to be hot..TIA
Re: Red Nips
It sounds like Thrush... but I think your DD is a little old for it to be... hummmm....
Here's what you can do for Thrush and see if it works:
Mix 1TBSP white vinegar with 1 cup water and wash your nipples after each feed, let them air dry. Make a new batch each night.
Use Monistat cream on the affected area, plus another inch circumference after each feed.
Change nursing pads after each feed. Wash everything that your nipples come into contact with every day in warm water (Boppy, sheets, bras, shirts, towels {don?t share a towel} I used pillow cases to cover the Boppy when nursing so I could rotate through them easier)
Boil pump parts/bottles/nipples everything that comes into contact with the baby?s mouth/your nipps for 20 minutes every day with white vinegar added to the water.
Limit sugars and carbs (they will feed the yeast), eat yougurt 2X a day, take garlic pills and anything pro-biotic helps.
Don't use Lanolin, or any cream on your nips, only use the Monistat (or generic) and cover with an Ameda gel pad (because they can be washed)
Do all of this for 2+weeks (don?t stop till 7 days after symptoms stop, no sooner than 2 weeks) If you don?t get rid of it, it can become treatment resistant and even more tough to get rid of!
You can also get Genitian Violet from Walgreens (turns EVERYTHING purple, but will work in a few days)
