Breastfeeding

Anyone on Weight Watchers?

I just started WW this Monday and am worried it's affecting my supply. It gave me the extra points for nursing mothers and I'm using them, but the last few nights I haven't pumped as much as I used to (I pump one bottle a day for DH to feed LO).

I want to lose weight, but not at the expense of having to supplement or stop breastfeeding. If you're on WW, has it affected your supply?

  • It may be too soon for you to start trying to lose weight if it is being affected.  Or it could be a coincidence and your supply is just regulating (not out of the question at all given LO's age).  I've been doing it for 11 weeks, but DS is obviously a lot older.  My midwife said WW was a good way to lose weight b/c they do account for the extra calories needed so it's not as much of a "diet" like other diets.  Most people can safely lose a pound a week without it affecting supply, but just take it slow.  Can you maybe try spreading out your 35 flex points throughout the week so you get more points per day?  Make sure you are getting enough water and lean protein as well.
  • I didn't pump much with DS1, but I did WW and was able to BF.  I can't really say whether it effected my supply or not since I couldn't physically see what he was consuming, but he was definitely getting enough.
