waiting for amnio results

I have been really bad with not posting here lately.  I'm Amber and had a positive triple screen for Downs.  I am 24 years old and pregnant with my first.  My odds went from 1 in 1,035 to 1 in 185....which is still less than one percent.  I have another week until I get the final results from the amnio....(I am one of the types where I wanted to know to prepare and educate myself more, and just give me a little more time to accept it.)  This may just be more of a vent than anything, but have any of you had a false-positive with a number close to my odds?  I have just been so down in the dumps about it all...either way I will LOVE Kimber with all my heart, I just want her to have the best, healthy start in life as possible.  I wasn't sure rather to post this on here, or special needs.  My doc is pretty sure its just a false positive, but the worst part of all of this is the 2 week wait for my results.  I wish EVERYONE out there a H&H 9 months and beyond!

Stay optimistic!!!! my risk was 1 in 142. I declined an amnio. We saw a high risk ob and none of the 'soft markers' for downs were found. We go tomorrow for our routine 20 wk scan. My OB said he was pretty positive it was a false positive. My high risk said he doesn't even offer the testing because of the % of false positives.

I have heard of many docs not offering the blood test b/c of the high percentage of false-positives.  I almost wish I had not got the test because it has caused us so much stress and worry.  Good luck with your ultrasound tomorrow, that's so exciting!!

I got a call from the Dr. last week saying I had a 1 in 140 chance of having a baby with a neural tube defect.  They sent me to a high risk ob yesterday and I had an ultrasound. Everything looked great and I was told that it was a false positive test.  Although the whole situation was EXTREMELY stressful and frightening (to say the least), I was happy to know that it was a false positive. I have done some research online and have a few friends that also know of others that have had a false positive.  Although mine wasn't for downs, I feel for you and pray that yours is a false positive as well!

I'm glad to hear someone's good results!   I have prepared myself for whatever the outcome may be, but the doctor feels mine is a false positive also.  It sure is a scary, and stressful feeling...I definitely know how you have felt!  I'm happy to hear everything is well with you and your baby!  I have been needing to hear something positive!  Good luck with everything!

DD had a false positive for CF (Cystic Fibrosis) at her birth and we had to go for additional testing which was so stressful and not fun, so I know what you are going through. Plus we had to pay for the test out of pocket. Ugh! All for a false positive. Anyway, the odds are seriously in your favor so try not to stress too much. It's out of your hands anyway. T&P!

Just wanted to share my story with you--at my NT scan/bloodwork, they gave me a 1 in 15 chance of our baby girl having Down syndrome. We ended up having an amnio at 18 weeks for something else that is going on with her, but she does NOT have down syndrome. Her karyotype is that of a healthy baby girl. I know the waiting is hard..we are in a perpetual waiting game right now, but please try not to worry--your chances are very good that she is just fine. HTH!

Thanks everyone for your stories!  Today I got the preliminary results and they told me it looks good so far....that everything looked fine.  So in a week I will receive the final results.
