so...help with cd washing

I'm scared to change what I'm doing but I don't think it's the best way.  lol

i was doing cold rinse/hot wash with detergent/hot rinse.  this caused me stinks (I was using sooo much detergent that wasn't getting rid of the poop smell)

then I changed to cold rinse/hot wash with detergent/hot rinse with vinegar.  still no help

then cold rinse vinegar/hot wash with detergent/hot rinse.  this seemed to almost get it gone

now it's long cold soak with vinegar/hot wash with detergent and dawn/hot rinse.  it works great.  the smell is gone and seems to be staying gone.  but i can't imagine using dawn every wash is good OR ef.

I've tried using homemade detergent.  tide.  all.  and more.

thoughts?  suggestions?  I just did the cold soak with vinegar and i'm about to do a wash.  Thanks :)

I am guessing I have hard water...I really have no idea.  but I have used waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much detergent for the diapers and they still didn't get clean.

and i am 98% sure i've tried the cold soak w/o the dawn.  but i will try it again tonight...

  • If you have hard water, try adding Calgon to the hot wash with the detergent. I have to do this otherwise my diapers stink no matter what I do. Also, I have to throw in a tiny bit of bleach each time as well. Also do you have an HE/FL machine? If so make sure you have it set to heavy soil (or whatever your equivalent is) and extra water to make sure you have enough water to sufficiently clean the diapers.

  • They sell Calgon at Walmart and other places like that. It comes in both liquid and powder form. I found the liquid works better but if you can only find the powder, go with it. Its in the laundry aisle, either on the very top shelf or the very bottom.
