Washington Babies

really how long can my kid cry??!! :( Can hardly stand it.

She has been trying to take a nap since 12:30 - she wouldn't let me put her down and would start crying (but was perfectly fine playing all morning) - finally about 1 I put her down and let her cry...she needs her sleep, I know this - well - 2pm now and still crying - I tried to go in a little bit ago to calm her but she just wanted to get up and play and hit me with her babydoll so I put her back in her bed and told her it was still naptime...still crying :( I HATE this...but we had a rough night last night - none of us got much sleep so I know how bad she needs a nap.... ugh.

I'm not sure what her deal is...yesterday's nap was like this too (except she cried to sleep MUCH faster) and last night it took me over and hour to get her to sleep and then she woke up at midnight and wanted to sleep in my arms but would not let me lay her down. She ended up in our bed for a while until around 3:30 when she got too squirmy and kept kicking and throwing her arms around (she gave me a bloody nose one time this way) - so I put her back in her bed and she cried and fell asleep within 10 minutes or so.

She has no fever, no signs of illness, she is very verbal and when I ask her if something hurts she says nothing does... I'm thinking she must be working on 2nd yr molars - teething is the only time we ever seem to have disturbances like this... we really have never had to do much cry it out because she has always gone down pretty peacefully... I really hate doing this but I feel like it is the best for her in the long run to sleep...right?? but she is not sleeping :(:(

wow that rambled on and on...sorry!

  • try giving her some tylenol to see if the teeth are really bugging her maybe?

will she sleep in the car? You could try going for a drive so she'll wind down.  Sometimes you jsut need to reset everything and start over.

I hope she's getting some sleep!

nope not a car sleeper unfortunately...and I don't want to give her tylenol because she says nothing hurts...I even ask specifics, do your ears hurt, does your mouth hurt, etc and she says no - its bizarre...

I think nap time is over...I have had enough of this... no nap today...hmm, hoe bedtime goes better...it is going to be EARLY I know that much!

  • I'd still try the tylenol tomorrow as a test.  She may not really be able to identify that it hurts... Even though she knows the words.

  • If Jillian cries for more than 10 minutes at nap time, it has generally meant she isn't going down for a nap.  Usually I'll wait an hour and try again.  I hope she takes a nap soon.  It sounds like she needs it!

if Addison doesn't take a nap at nap time, she won't take one at all - she is very picky like that... early bedtime is my only hope now :)

ya its just weird because she is fine the rest of the day - and even sleeping in my arms...its just when I go to put her in HER bed...

  • I would totally try tylenol too.  I'm not a huge medicine fan in general, but sometimes they can't tell you exactly what is wrong.  It could be growing pains!  I'd say 95% of the time when I can't figure out the issue, the tylenol works.

    Hang in there!

if we have trouble tonight I will - she is playing fine now and happy - even with hardly any sleep last night and no nap... I have only given her tylenol once ever in her life - I would have to call just to get the right dose even.:)
