Coloboma

My 2 week old son has one pupil that is an oval shape. In the hospital;the ped said he is 100%perfect.I asked her about his pupil looking odd to me but she said she didn't see anything. At his 1 week check up;his doctor saw what I was seeing.I need to bring him to a specialist but the doctor was not concerned.I stupidly started googling and have read all these horrible things that are sometimes linkedwith this eye condition.I am not worried about the cosmetic part of it but worried its a sign of other problems.HAs anyone heard of this??He looks around with both eyes and this dosen't seem to effect him.I would just love someone to reassure me.Thanks..

Hi! My son has a coloboma which was discovered at his 2 month appointment.  We were referred to a ophthamologist who we saw the next week.  I too googled and was holding my breath during the wait to see the specialist.  At that appointment she said that the incomplete closure of his iris was fine, but if his retina didn't fully develop he may have vision problems.  She dilated his pupils and had to hold his little eye open and use a light and all sorts of magnifying tools to look inside his eye (which he hated, it was awful!)  Anyway, she said his retina looked good and we will go back in 3 months to double check.  Hopefully your son will have the same good outcome!
