Pregnant after a Loss

Baby Measuring big???

So I went to my 28 week appt. yesterday and when they did the belly measurement the midwife (who is not the midwife I normally see) says Wow this is a big boy!! My belly was measuring 32 weeks. She checked my cervix because I told her I thought I lost my mucus plug and she confirmed that I did lose most of it. Has anyone else had something like this happen? I am going back to see my regular doctor next week but am kind of freaking out about if I will be having this baby early or if he will just be huge! TIA for any experiences or advice.

Oh and I guess I should add I have passed my glucose test and have gained 12 pounds total this pregnancy (otherwise I would probably just chalk it up to enjoying the holidays a little too much!)

Re: Baby Measuring big???

  • I've been measuring ahead consistently since they started measuring my belly.  I've always been 2 weeks ahead.  I had a growth u/s at 32 weeks that showed the baby was measuring just one week ahead.  My OB wasn't concerned about me measuring ahead because the growth has been consistent.  It's not like I measured 4 weeks ahead at one appt then measured 1 week ahead at the next, ya know.

  • I am measuring big as well, at my 32 wk u/s they figured at full term my LO will be almost 9 lbs... also on the screen they updated my due date from 2/5 to 1/31... but it has been officially changed... i lost my mucas plug (or part of my mp) a day or two after the u/s... doc doesn't want me to go pre-term so has put sexy time on hold... she didn't check me, I was the last appointment before she had to go to the hospital for a delivery so it was a quickie appointment.  So my guess is that your LO might come early... it is also possible to get a second mucas plug... i would talk to you doc about it and your concerns... my said no c-section unless absolutely necessary... and babies grow at all different rates, maybe yours was just on a growth spurt.

  • Thank you! I am relieved to see that I am not alone. I hope he is planning on making himself comfy and staying in there for a while longer.
