So I had my doctors appt today. My BP was 148/100 the first time she took it. They then had me lay down on my left side for about 2 minutes and took it again...this time 122/72. I had also mentioned that the day after Christmas my left ankle was swollen. The doctor was concerned about this (although I have had no headaches, vision problems, and only swelling the one day) and hooked me right up to a non-stress test for the baby. He looked fine- great heart rate, etc.
She is now having me do a 24 hour urine test and told me I can't go back to work Monday until they get the results of the test and bloodwork back. And that she may say I can't work any more. She also said there is a possibility of early induction. I am pretty near 36 weeks and they checked my cervix-- I am still closed up, but have thinned out a lot.
This is all very sudden and very scary to me. Anyone experience(ing) anything similar? DH thinks that "everything is fine" and that the doc is just being overly cautious. They told me to take it easy for the next few days and try to stay relaxed. How do you relax when you are worried????
Re: possible preeclampsia and lots of ???
I was just tested for it and everything came back fine. My BP was up around 140/90 (not sure the exact number but I was told it was close to where it was in the first tri when I started to have high BP) and had to come back to have it checked in a week and go get some bloodwork and a urine test. I escaped the 24-hour urine, thank goodness. I went back, my BP was higher, 140/94 so the nurse had me lay down for a few minutes and all was fine so I went on my merry way. Yesterday my BP was still high, 136/90 so my OB upped my BP meds since everything else had come back fine. OB's take high BP seriously when pregnant.
Just try to relax and not worry too much. You are close to term so if you do have to be induced there is a pretty good chance the baby will be 100% healthy now. Don't do what I did and google everything about pre-e because you'll just freak yourself out even more. Take it easy for you and the baby and enjoy your short break from work. Who knows, Monday you may be back at work.
Thanks ladies. This all makes me feel better- as did the 20 minute session of listening to LO's heartbeat thud away like a clydesdale! I just want him to be ok- I can worry about me later!! Thankfully, I am a teacher and am on winter break, so I don't have to go to work and worry about collecting the pee in a jug there! That would be impossible!!
For PP- my ankles normally are super super skinny- and boney- like, I get teased about them my whole life. The left one was so swollen that you could not see the bone on either side- it wasn't so much the foot, as it was the ankle- the next day it had gone down a lot, but there was still what seemed like a little patch off fluid there. DH definitely noticed the swelling, because when I sat down and my feet and ankles were sticking out, I made a yelp sound, and he turned and looked and was like "oh sh*t look at your ankle!!" and saw it right away too.
This was pretty much my entire last pregnancy.
Horribly high pressures, scary tests, etc. Pre-e is scary because a lot can go wrong quickly--but usually not until delivery.
So the doctor keeps a close and careful eye on you knowing the only cure for this is to get the baby out.
I was induced at 37 weeks with my last pregnancy and had all sorts of issues resulting in a C-section--but she was healthy and fine.
It's scary and overwhelming but the doctors will take care of you.
This time around I've had some high pressures but my 24 hour came back without any protein so they've just been keeping an eye on me again and so far we're still going with a scheduled C-section sometime around 39 weeks.
I never felt different BTW no physical symptoms--I didn't even swell, just had really high BP.
I don't have any advice but to say I could have written this post myself. I went today and I was 150/90 so I too am on bedrest until Monday and doing my 24 hr urine samples. You're perfectly normal feeling scared - I'm at 33 weeks (34 tomorrow) so I really want to keep this baby in the cooker for a few more weeks but I'll just follow doctor's orders and trust the guidance they give me.
Hang in there and good luck.
