DS is officially on whole milk. I was sad at first but now feel I am OK with it. We had a great run! I still have some in the freezer and it would kill me to throw it out.
Wondering what size my boobs will return to It will be nice to not drag my pump to work everyday and wear normal bras again.
Re: We're done with BFing...it's a good thing.
dont throw it out
just put the bm in a sippy
Congrats!
I'm about to start the transition to whole milk soon (waiting for my DS's birthday). I've been reading about weaning, and have a question. Since you've been through it, can I ask you? For every nursing session that you dropped, did you just replace it with whole milk? We're nursing 4-5 times a day still. Just wondering if I can drop a session before his birthday and replace with a snack or something instead of whole milk.
I kinda weaned abruptly. My supply started getting too low to supply all his milk for the day. The pedi said I could supplement with whole milk (DS was about 11.5 months) since he was old enough. We didn't bother with formula. We did a 50/50 BM to whole milk ratio and he seemed to do OK.
But if he had "straight" milk or yogurt he would wake up crying in the middle of the night with stomach pains/gas. I knew he didn't have an allergy, but was wondering if he had a milk intolerance. The pedi said to try just whole milk for a few days to see what would happen. And he did fine. He would have whole milk while I was at work (I was still pumping 2x day) and I would nurse him before bed and the weekends.
I had read that sometimes it is easier to wean at this age b/c they aren't so attached. I haven't nursed in a week and he doesn't seem to care. I still had to pump for a few days for my body to adjust. I haven't pumped since the weekend and feel fine. It was a little uncomfortable at first.
He gets milk in the am, before nap/bed and gets water in a sippy the rest of the day. We are going to try and transition the bottle now - I didn't want to tackle too much at once. I am going to start with the morning bottle and move down from that.
I would offer a snack/water and see how it goes. My pedi said DS only needs 12-18 oz of milk/day.
GL!
Great job! It is a sad but also exciting time.
I still have like 300 oz in the deep freezer that I can't bring myself to throw away. I tried giving it to her in a cup and she wouldn't take it. Oh well, I guess I'll have to dump it sometime.
