Whenever I have seen it it has just been a sweet little peck but it still causes me to do a double take. We didn't do that growing up so I guess I am just not used to it. It is a slow day and I am curious what everyone thinks about this one.
when they're little (under age 10) I think it's fine. Older than that starts to look a little weird. Right now I joke with DD that we're making out when I hold her up to my face and she open mouth slobbers all over me, lol. No, we will not be doing that when she's older!
We never did that in my family either and I always said I wouldn't do it with my kids. But you know what, I do it with DD. Not often but I do it and she loves it. She giggles like crazy, lol. I see it as a baby thing though and I'm sure I won't be doing it when she's 10 or something.
DH and I do. I agree that when she is older we obviously wont be doing it, but right now I dont see the problem with it. Now, if we are sick, thats a different story.
I think how you were raised has a lot of influence on this. We do not kiss DD on the lips nor will we ever. I am aware other families do do this and that's fine for them. It's just NMS.
Weird probably isn't the right word. I don't think people who do are weird, I just notice it when I see it because we didn't do that in our family. I did always wonder if families that did stopped at a certain age. Isn't the bump cool, you could never find out this kind of stuff IRL.
No, I don't think it's weird. I kiss DS on the lips all the time. J doesn't kiss him though. He barely kisses him on the head. Obviously, I will stop when he's older.
as a baby/young child, no. I kiss my little man's lips all the time. I loved kissing him when he was just born, his lips were so little i couldnt even feel them! anyhoo, after around the age of 5, I wouldnt kiss on the lips anymore.
I kiss DS on the lips. We didn't get kissed on the mouth growing up, but our family is different from my family of origin (thank God) so I will still be super affectionate with him. I'll probably kiss him on the mouth until he's old enough to tell me to stop.
I wasn't really thinking of infants, in fact I don't think I even notice when that happens. I am talking age lets say 5 and up. Does it make a difference if it is a dad kissing his daughter or mom kissing her son?

Oh, no, we probably won't be doing that once he's school aged. I'm thinking I'd probably stop when he's around 2, but knowing me it could be extended to four or five.
I kiss DS on the lips but DH doesn't kiss him at all. I grew up kissing my parents on the lips but stopped when I got older, it'll be the same for DS. Come to think of it, DH's family doesn't really do the hugging/kissing thing at all.
DS luvs it, i make little noises in his mouth that echo and he gets a kick out of it. i'll probably do it til' he's 2 or so, or until i feel its time to stop.
DH doesn't though...he is a cheek kisser.

We kiss DD on the lips all the time. I still kiss my parents on the cheek when I say goodbye to them... it switched from lips to cheek around 7 or 8.
This. I still kiss my parents whe I come and go. I actually kiss my entire family cousins too. I kiss DS on the lips all the time, he is my little man. I tell DH the baby is a better kisser than him. Lol!
I see nothing wrong with kissing your kids on the lips.

This. I still kiss my parents good-bye and have never thought twice about it. I'll let LO run the show - if he stops it on his own, we'll go with that. Until then, I'll continue to smother him with kisses!

Yup I do and see nothing wrong with it. We're kissing all day long and he also likes to "eat" me and will eat my whole face. Babies obviously explore with their mouths, and those lips are just so kissable!
I think it's weird to try to go out of your way to avoid the mouth!
This is how DH grew up, his mom kisses kids until they're about 10, and all women on the lips. just a peck. It weirded me out at first, my family doesn't do it at all, but, after 11 years, i'm used to it.
Re: Do you think it is weird when parents kiss their LOs on the lips?
Not really, it's kind of sweet, but I'm not a very warm person in general so it's nothing I would probably ever do.
Kills me when I try to kiss DS on the cheeks and he turns his head and open mouth kisses me....what a stinker!

To each his own, though. I grew up kissing my mom on the lips so maybe thats why I do it. We dont kiss anymore, obviously, but very young I did.
this. i grew up doing this but stopped the lip kissing around 6 or 7. dh doesn't do this though but he grew up that way.

Do I find it weird? yes.
Do I do it on occasion? Yes.
