Charlies Soap?

I am ordering my prefolds and covers - yay!  But I need some detergent as well.  I was planning to use Charlies, as it is recommended by a local cloth diaper shop, but it seems there are mixed reviews online.

Does anyone here use Charlies?  Is there something better I should try?  Needs to be HE because I have a front loader.  Also, I have hard water, so not sure if that makes a difference.  I'm not ready for the make-my-own detergent step yet.

Thanks!

Re: Charlies Soap?

  • I like Charlie's, but it's not the beat for hard water. You'll have to add a water softener with it, like Calgon. For hard water I like Allen's (still cheap for HE because you use half the amount); also Crunchy Clean had a good hard water version now, Rockin' Green is formulated for the hard water in San Antonio but I don't have a full report on it yet, Maggie's Soap Nuts are also good at getting things clean but not awesome on stains.

  • Hi

I am new on here (Iurked through my first pregnancy) and just wanted to say that we have tried many, many soaps out there. We also have hard water and Charlies did not work well.

Nature Clean is fine and (not as green), but Tide HE works very well. We were getting terrible build up on DD's diaps.

If you want the ultimate info on CDs go to www.diaperswappers.com

We CDed from birth and DD is now 15 mths.

    HTH!

  • Redvla, did you use Tide Free and Clear HE, or just regular Tide HE?
