I just read your blog post from yesterday and you mentioned he likes being on his changing pad.  Have you tried putting his changing pad in his crib and putting him on it there?  Or on the floor or anywhere that you don't have to sit next to him really!  DS loves his changing pad as well and we've done that before.  He went right to sleep and I was able to leave the room and get things done.  Just an idea for you!  GL!
