non-clicky poll - when and what was your last EF change?

Curious - because while I've kept up with most everything I've done, I haven't had anything new in awhile.

Last - switched to Diva Cup, about 4 or 5 months ago, now.  I honestly can't think of a 'change' since then, although we are talking about doing grass fed beef, though I don't know if that is considered an EF change or not...  Maybe we should ask a certain someone...

Re: non-clicky poll - when and what was your last EF change?

  • Hmm last major change was when we started composting which was probably 5 months ago. I do try to do little things here and there like I just started using dryer balls (asked for them for Christmas) and they have actually cut down on my drying times - I was pleasantly surprised and I'm saving some of the lidded containers that we can't recycle (only take 1-2's) until I get a good stack of them and then freecycling them. It's amazing what people will take!

My next ef change is hopefully to start unplugging things that aren't in use. I've been meaning to do this for a few months but I know it's going to be such a pain to implement that I keep putting it off. Heck I can't even get dh to turn the lights off when he leaves a room - <head desk>

  • Interesting...I was just reading over a post I made to my blog back in March where I listed things I still do that aren't EF or don't align with my ideas of how things "should be." I was proud to see that I have switched to EF paint. In our other home, we used regular ol' paint bought at Lowes/Home Depot/Ace Hardware. With this house (and mainly for the baby's sake) I researched a better alternative.

I was also using regular tampons at that time. I think after baby/bf-ing I'll use mama cloth.

So, the most recent change was this month, but it's not a change that gets done daily. I'm hoping to switch to cloth paper towels and napkins now that our W/D is located in the kitchen--easy to toss them in and wash right away when full!

Oooh. We want to start composting in the spring/summer now that we have a yard!  We already put our Christmas tree in the yard as a place for birds to nest this winter, then we'll use the wood in the chiminea this summer :)
  • For a long time we hadn't made any changes.  The last one before that was when we switched to cloth napkins.  But now that we're home (just in this past week) I've (tried) line drying CDs and I set the dishwasher to air dry instead of the regular heated dry.  Worked great and hopefully used a lot less energy!

I'm going to try drying the CDs on my wooden rack this next time.  Hopefully I don't break it too!

  • last month (I think) we got a compost bin and started a garden.  we got an orange tree for xmas from dh's parents.

this past year though, we started cloth diapering, using cloth napkins, using homemade cleaners, recycling anything and everything we can.  sewing as much as possible, started knitting to make ds' diaper covers.  got a more gas efficient car....I'm sure there's more that I can't think of.

oh, started buying more organic and local when we can.  stopped eating out as often (we didn't do it too often before, but it was still too much! Smile

  • We got a recycling bin about two months ago- finally. I think that's the most recent...

Though I do plan on starting unpaper towels as soon as I get them made from old (old, old, old) flour sacks I found in my grandma's stuff.
