I'm not sure how many of you have heard this, but I freak out about SIDS.
Thought this was interesting. Was watching Dr. Oz and they did a special on SIDS and a few things they suggested.
Take bumpers, blankets, stuffed toys etc OUT of the crib. Babies don't need blankets or bumpers or stuffed toys.
place a fan in the room can reduce the risk of SIDS 50-75%!

Re: SIDS- PSA ..
I still use a bumper but bought a mesh one we use for the period of time when baby can scoot around the crib but can't easily move if up against the bumper.
We also use the Angel Care monitor which gives more peace of mind than you can imagine. I highly recommend it!
Also, babies don't need a warm room to sleep in, it's suggested you keep it around 65 degrees.
Breastfeeding has shown to reduce risk of SIDS.
Using a pacifier during nap and bed time has been shown to reduce risk.
Practice "back to sleep" - place baby on their back when they sleep.
We got a monitor that has a thermometer built in so that the room stays between 65 and 75 - which is apparently ideal (according to the AAP)
It's also beneficial for the baby to sleep in the same room as the parents. Subconsciously they'll match their breathing to the adults in the room - or the older children if that's an option.
Great tips!
My 2 month old cousin died of SIDS last year.
I'm glad to see this post; even though being paranoid isn't good, sometimes it's easy to forget how small things can make a difference.
