I was upstairs last night getting Tyler ready for bed and I heard a crash followed by crying. I honestly didn't think much of it since DH was downstairs with Justin, so I just figured he tripped and fell. Next thing I know, DH is yelling "Oh my God" so I knew something was wrong, he's not one to yell stuff like that (I'm the one who freaks out around here).
I grabbed the baby and went flying down the stairs. DH has Justin over by the sink trying to mop up blood that was EVERYWHERE. Justin was heaving, he was crying so hard. I nearly flipped, seeing blood like that freaked me out completely. He had been horsing around in the family room and pulled down the lighted garland we had hanging, and it caught one of the heavy stocking hangers. The stocking hanger hit him right in the middle of the top of his forehead. We debated between going to Urgent Care and the ER and decided to go to the Urgent Care that is a mile or so from our house. The doctor took one look at Justin and said that it needed stitches.
I think the stitches were the absolute worst part. They had to numb the area locally, so Justin got a shot in his forehead and it seemed to take forever to get it all in there. DH and I had to hold him down while they did that and the subsequent stitches. Justin was squeezing my hands so hard, poor guy.
So he got his first serious injury. I have never had stitches for anything other than surgery, lucky I guess! I imagine he will be sore for a few days. I can't imagine how that had to hurt to have this stocking hanger come down on his poor little head.

Oh my God, how frightening for all of you! Poor guy will need some tender loving care and Mommy and Daddy might need a stiff drink.
Msn had an article this year that said stocking hangers are one of the top ten holiday hazards to young children for exactly that reason. I guess quite a few kids have been injured. I hope Justin heals up quickly.

OMG - I would have freaked out. Those stocking hangers are no joke. We had one fall off of our mantel and crack our tile flooring.
I've had stitches once before, and I'll never forget the experience EVER. My dad (who's a doctor) removed them while I was at home, in bed. Talk about traumatizing. I hope Justin feels better soon!
OMG poor Justin and you guys! that had to hurt so bad! my niece yanked one of mine down and I thought what the heck was that noise, it was so loud. I couldn't imagine it landing on his poor little forehead!
were they worried about a conconsusion (sp) or anything? that is so heavy.
I didn't really think about them being a hazard I just thought my niece was being a PITA. I guess I will have to skip them for a few years.
