Babies: 3 - 6 Months

XP...If you rent...

We're moving in 2 months. Compare these two properties and see which one you would like better...

Property A-

2 bedroom, 1 ba, newer and cleaner than B, no storage other than a small laundry room and the back of the garage. Farther from work by about 10 mins. We love the landlords (family friends). No fence in back yard. Small dogs only. (we currently have no pets but are considering a dog in the summer)

Property B-

Also 2 bed 1 bath, but 2 separate storage areas in the basement...you walk down 5 stairs to one area and then turn a corner into another area. Unfinished, but the first area has potential to hold our office desk and with a rug and some lamps might work as a play area. The other area would hold the hundreds (not really) of crates and bins I store our stuff in. HUGE garage that might hold both cars. Big kitchen, lots of cabinets. NO DISHWASHER. Closer to work. Costs $70 more than property A. Closer to my mom (DS goes there on Thursdays).Fenced yard, no pet restrictions.

So, for $70 more, we are getting tons more storage but no dishwasher. Opinions appreciated...we're still mulling it over.

  • Well, if Im reading this correctly it sounds like you have already made your choice without knowing it!

    B

Buy a dishwasher and live happily ever after

  • The $70 bucks a month more is probably the same as the gas you would spend at the other place. My place has no storage and its REALLY tough. Especially with a baby when you have big strollers ect.

Closer to work, fenced yard, close to parents all would be big perks in my books. Also try searching craigslist for a dishwasher that you just attatch to your sink when you need it. (portable dishwasher)

My only worry is when you say the first is newer and cleaner..how unclean is the other one? Like dirty carpet ect?

  • Would the landlords be willing to either let you get a dish washer or add one for you?? I personally dont have one and wish i did, but the extra space is so nice. I love having a basement to hold all our crap. Are you paying utilities (sp) on both? or does the landlord pay? Also, having a fenced year would come in handy come summer with LO. And sometimes its hard to rent from someone you know.

Nope, they are both hardwood. But the B property you can tell the floors are scuffed up and dingy, A's floors just look newer.

  • I'd choose B and see if the landlords will let you bring in a dishwasher or provide one for you.  And maybe if they'll clean up the place a bit too.  The second just seems like it has a lot more perks than the first.  To me, storage is a HUGE perk, among the other things you listed.
