did they ever get better with it? My DS is going to be 3 months tomorrow and he has yet to do more than 2 seconds of tummy time! After 2 seconds he starts really crying! I've tried tummy time on the boppy, a smallish pillow, and on nothing (just the floor). It doesn't matter how, he hates it. He doesn't have very good neck control, so I know he really needs more tummy time. If your LO hated tummy time, when did they start to tolerate it better? Thanks!

Re: If your baby hated tummy time...
::shrugs::
I just let him cry through tummy time. He cries. I lay beside him & talk to him with my hand on his back, trying to point out toys & get him interested.
of course, he's not. ever.
Oh man, our little guy used to HATE tummy time. He still isn't a fan either but it's pretty hilarious, he will roll onto his tummy on purpose then get all frustrated because he hates it?!
He is however VERY determined to start crawling.. he goes onto his tummy and will be content for 5 min just looking around all cute, then he starts trying to push himself forward. He doesn't get anywhere but he spends 5 or 6 minutes frantically "swimming", hunching his back so his bum's in the air, pushing at the ground with his feet and getting very very angry!! I pick him up just before he hits the point of no return (eg, major temper-tantrum) and comfort him and play with him until he calms back down. He can manage to turn himself in a circle sometimes.
I guess it's just perseverance in the case of tummy-time-haters!
My LO used to hate tummy time with a total passion. She would scream the instant I put her on her belly. Then, I started having her practice a few times a day everyday. I first noticed that she was getting more comfortable with it during Thanksgiving week. Now she can go for 5 or 10 minutes at a time without crying. The biggest thing that helped was getting on my own hands and knees down to her level to talk with her and smile at her while she was struggling. Another thing that helps is having a small pillow near by that you can slip under her when she is too tired to keep her head up (mine was specially made for tummy time and is a crescent shape). The pillow still allows her head to be at a higher level than the rest of her body while on her belly but lets the LO rest a bit. I remember being so excited when she first managed to smile back while on her belly.
It will get better. Definitely lots of practice makes a difference. Good luck!
