Pregnant after a Loss

Follow Up w/Peri was this morning

So I went back to the Peri today as ever since they discovered I had low amniotic fluid at 29 weeks they want to monitor me weekly.  Normal range of fluid is 10-20cm..... so at my 29 week u/s I had only 7.9, the following week at my 30 week u/s I had 8.9 and then today it measured at 6.9.. imagine, I was freaking out to say the least.  I started to cry.  The Peri asked me to return to the waiting room and they would re-measure.  So about 1.5 hours later I was measured again and this time the fluid level was at 10.2, Thank God :)  The Peri explained that the fluid level is never the same throughout the day, as it changes based on when the baby drinks, urinates etc... he was pleased w/the level and said it was "normal" w/a smile.  I had to do the NST, to check for fetal movements, heartbeat and contractions... everything "was really great" he said w/another smile.  The only concerning news was that all measurements are on track, except Baby V's legs, which are measuring 1 week / 5 days behind ... he thinks the baby inherited my mother's genes, as she is short and her whole family is short.  I was hoping w/DH being tall and me being tall that our baby would have long legs... looks like that isn't the case :(   I go back in 1 week to check fluid level again.  It just doesn't ever get easier.

  • I'm sorry you had that scare! I would have freaked out too.  I'm glad the measurement looked normal the second time they checked.  It's great that you're being followed closely to keep an eye on things.

  • I'm sorry things aren't going easily for you. I hope they get better, though I really wouldn't say they are bad, just stressful.

If it helps. I asked about fluid levels with our u/s tech (ours were low too), and she said that it's so hard to get an accurate read, because there's almost always more in there than they can measure. They only take measurements from certain 'points' and there is alway other pockets of it that aren't in those points. I don't know if that makes sense, but she basically said that whatever the #'s are, there's most certainly more in there that they can't see/measure.

Hugs... Just keep smiling, you're in the 'homestretch' now that you're over 30 weeks!
