Nursing Bra Sizing

Hey guys,

I probably need to go ahead and order at least one nursing bra to get me through the first bit.... I was fitted for a maternity bra at 30 weeks and was a 40G at the time.  Should I go up one cupsize or two for the nursing bra?   Other thoughts, opinions?  TIA!

Re: Nursing Bra Sizing

  • I used nursing tanks until I could get out to get a nursing bra after delivery. I don't know if that's an option with your cup size. I am the same size as I was when I was pregnant. I went from a C prepregnancy to a D during pregnancy and now. The girls were out of control when my milk first came in though.

  • yeah....that's the problem with being so well endowed these days....I can't do nursing tops or anything w/o massive support and a feat of engineering.

  • I'd get just one now because you'll want something besides a tank to wear occasionally in the first weeks and you can't just run into Target or Motherhood to grab a bra if you're anthing above a DD.

I was a 36DD pre-preganancy, a 36G by the end of my pregnancy, and found a 38H fit me well for the first month postpartum.  After that I settled in to a 36H, now at 10 months I'm finally down to a 34G. Point being, things will change quite a bit and you want a well fitting, supportive bra, so don't ever get too many at once.

It's ugly as sin, but I'd recommend this softcup Medela bra for the first few weeks.  It has good support for something without underwire and the cups are adjustable for engorgement. However, after the first month I never wore it again (band was too big and I switched to underwire.)  breakoutbras.com also has a good selection of "full figure" nursing bras.
