Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Im doing the 4mo wakeful wrong...as we speak.

Aiden has been getting up each night at least twice since he rolled a few days ago. Prior to that we were spoiled with him STTN about 85% of the time. He is trying to roll in his crib (there is no room for that! Its freaking me out!). I took him out and am letting him play on the floor with some toys right now. Im sure I was supposed to be quiet, keep the lights off and rock him/fight with him for an hour until he eventually falls back asleep but.... I wasnt up for it.

Q: He slept with a blanket & on his tummy up until now, now that he is rolling Im worried about the blanket. Should I get a growbag - are they safe for rolling babies?? tia*

  • There's more than keeping him up that you're doing wrong.

  • i'm confused.

the 4 month wakeful isn't about getting them to go back to sleep.  around 4 months is when they begin to be more aware of their surroundings and  will sometimes eat less during the day and at each feeding due to being distracted from eating.  they tend to wake more often, especially during the night, because they didn't get enough during the day.

i don't have any advice for you about the tummy and/or blanket sleeping.  DD doesn't do either.

  • First, I'd definitely get rid of the blanket. Second, why is there no room for rolling? DS rolls all night too (and wakes up half the time when he rolls to his tummy), but he can roll back and forth in the crib. DS is rolling and we use a sleep sack (is that a grow bag?). It's MUCH safer than a blanket.

  • Okay he sleeps on his tummy because he has great head control and can push himself up on his arms and because his pedi recommended it since 4weeks old because of his reflux issues.

Secondly - PER THE BUMP the 4month wakeful occurs because they are hitting milestones/becoming more aware of thier surroundings and want to get up and play during the night.

Thirdly - There is some room for rolling but not much. He is a huge kid and I usually put him in the crib width wise. If I put him in vertically there is maybe an inch of space between he head and the bars.
