Infant Carseat Dilemma

I'm leaning toward the Chicco Keyfit for style reasons and reviews but I'm also attracted to the Graco Snugride because of the swing base you can purchase.  I like the idea of being able to put the carseat right into the swing without having to take the baby out.  Is that enough of a bonus to go with my 2nd choice? Thoughts?

Re: Infant Carseat Dilemma

  • You might want to consider stroller compatibility too. We got a Graco Snugride b/c it was compatible with BOB strollers, which we were planning to use.

  • We're getting the UppaBaby Vista which works with both the Chicco and Graco.  I'm glad I had that to narrow down the choices!

  • Both are really good carseats so I don't think you can go wrong with either one. With that said, Kaylin never took to the swing (we have the SweetPeace) so I probably would have regretted going with my second choice.
  • I personally don't see the draw to a swing that uses the carseat. If Mason was asleep in the carseat I left him in it, just on the table ( Surprise out of dogs reach) or bed.  I am not sure why you would attach a happily asleep baby to the swing?

So to answer your question, no I dont think I would get the graco for that reason.  We have a graco safeseat, which was great and will be used again for this baby.

  • What "pearly" said. I went w/ Graco for BOB compatibility. My friend had a Chicco and ended up buying a used Graco just for the BOB.  We barely used a swing so I"m no help there.

  • We have the Graco, and I really like it. I was able to carry DS in it until he was about 19lbs. We also didnt use the swing much at all, but I like the seat for the other reasons. Also, you can get a second base super cheap on CL for a second car since they are so popular :)

  • I have a Chicco and Loved it!  It was a really great carseat and didn't seem to be as heavy as most, it also holds a heavier weight than most carseats.  I agree with pp you probably will just leave baby in carseat on the floor asleep and not need a swing that the carseat attaches to.  Also you really don't want them to stay in the carseat all the time, in fact daycares will not let you leave a sleeping baby in a carseat as its against state law.

  • I have both the swing and the snug ride and I loved BOTH! I never used the carseat in the swing but the swing is fab.  It has so many different things you can use on it.  I love the snug ride as well, and we got a baby trend snap and go stroller to snap the seat into.  I loved that stroller, super easy to use.
  • We got the graco and the swing base for it, we also had a regular swing that we used when he wasnt already asleep in his carseat.  Leaving him in the carseat when he was napping and not moving wasnt an option because he would wake up instantly!   That little swing base was also AWESOME for bringing to the babysitters house or even into restaurants which we did several times!  It was the only way to actually get to eat a meal out and it didnt take up a lot of room.
