Pregnant after a Loss

Kidney Stone

I've had reoccuring kidney stones for years.  They run in the family (my dad just had surgery because he had 10mm, 8mm, & a 3mm stones in his left kidney).  I'm starting to feel the achiness in my right kidney that is generally associated with them.  Fun, Fun.  I can't get an x-ray to confirm and I'm not worried about pain meds because I usually have an incredible tolerance for internal pain (external pain, not so much... when I get a paper cut, you would think that I cut my finger off!)  I've never had one larger than 3mm which, according to my urologist, is about the biggest you can pass on your own... so I'm not too worried about that.  I am, however, not looking forward to how crappy I will continue to feel for the next few days.  And my birthday is on Thursday to top it off (I'll be 29+1).

I've downed so much water today it isn't even funny.  Luckily we had some bananas in the house to add some potasium to my system.  Cross your fingers for me that this passes soon!!!

I really hope it is just an ache due to baby and not a kidney stone. I still remember my dad crying like a baby on our bathroom floor from his. He ended up having surgery to remove them. I really hope you are feeling better by your birthday. I am also turning 29+1, but my birthday is Friday. Good luck!

  • Happy Birthday to you!!!

I'm hoping it is just an ache, but kidney stones have an unmistakable feeling to them.  The only reason why I think I can go through childbirth with no meds is because I can pass a kidney stone with no meds.  I get it from my dad, you would never know that he has them -- we just go about our daily routine but have a 'I feel like crap' constant feeling to us.  I think it comes from growing up as a military brat... (my dad is 30 year army retired)... you do what you have do do regardless of how you feel.

  • I very much know your pain. I've had several, and one when I was about 16 weeks pg. It was just the beginnings when i went to the dr., but I told him that I was ok for now but didn't know how to handle the situation if things got bad.. ER or L&D?

He gave me vicotin for if it did get bad.
