Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Trying hard not to get frustrated

She just won't eat.  She just seems less and less interested in her bottle every day.  I've tried feeding her less oz. more frequently, more oz. less frequently, feeding her in  her room with the lights dimmed, feeding her with no noise distractions - nothing is working.  She's 6 months old and eats less than 20 oz. a day.  DH says that it's because she's eating more solids now and that she should eat less fluid oz. a day - okay, maybe.  But she's only getting two solid meals a day (cereal and 1/2 block food in the morning and 1 block fooPlease tell me there is in the evening).

Please tell me there is another baby like this out there or that someone has some insight.

  • DS has been eating less recently because he's teething. He's still over 20 oz but is eating less than usual. If it lasts too long, I'd call the pedi and see if there's any cause for concern. They might tell you to give her more food or just not to worry.

I'd give it a few days to a week as long as she doesn't seem lethargic or otherwise ill. Fever, etc. Then call pedi. At least, if it were me that's what we'd do because I know LOs can eat less when teething.

  • For a few weeks before DSs 6 mo appt he had really backed down in oz/day and we had only been giving him 1 tbs of cereal in the am. Most days it seemed like a struggle to get to 22oz. At his appt I asked the pedi and she said it was fine and that they get concerned when it is less then 12-16 oz/day and that as we introduce more solids he will drink less formula.

Do you have a scale at home to weigh your LO so you know there is weight gain going on? I think as long as there is weight gain and they are thriving the exact amount isn't as important.

If you're really concerned, call the pedi talk with a nurse and see if they want you to bring LO in for a weigh in and a once over. Can't hurt.
