Pregnant after a Loss

Round Ligament Pain???

I have been experiencing pretty bad hip/pelvis pain for the past 12 hours or so without much relief.  Does that sound like round ligament pain?  It feels like ligament pain (like when you strain a ligament).  It woke me up at 4:30 this morning and it hurts to walk long distances (I walk about 1/2 mile from the car to my desk). I really hate to bother my OB, but it seems odd this early.

Re: Round Ligament Pain???

  • I've had round ligament pain through out this pregnancy, but it was more toward the middle of my body. I've recently developed an "old lady" hip - it seems to pop out when I try to go up stairs or stand up or bend over, and it hurts like a motha. It most often happens to ladies near the end of their pregnancy, but it can happen earlier. Apparently the hormone relaxin relaxes the ligaments and tendons in your body, but they can get a little too loose in your hip joint and hip plates, causing more movement than normal and thus, pain. Also, women with Scandinavian blood seem to get it more often, for unknown reasons (and I'm Norwegian/Swedish).

This is for me, but maybe it's what's causing your pain. Make sure to ask your Dr the next time you go in!

  • It isn't too early for RLP but if its been constant, you should call. When I had RLP early on it was mostly when I stood up after sitting too long, when I sneezed, or when I rolled over in bed in a weird way. I felt it mostly in my lower abdomen in between my naval and hip bone, but it usually only lasted a minute or so.
