Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Sleep training

Ds goes to bed every night at 830 pm. but so far he has been getting up earlier and earlier. The earliest was 5 am. He would complain and whine until I pick him up. How can I get him to at least sleep in till 630 am?

Please help. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. TIA

Re: Sleep training

  • try putting him down earlier.  typically 7pm is the "suggested" bed time.  DD goes down between 6:30-7 and sleeps until 6-7am.

  • Ditto PP.  We go by Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. Based on sleep cycles/patterns, it's not unusual for a baby to wake up at 6, so when he was waking earlier we go in and get him a little later each day (so 5am wake-up, we'd go in at 5:15 for a day or two, then 5:15 wake-up and we'd go in at 5:30).  That didn't really work as one morning he'd wake at 5:15, then 5:45, then back to 5.  The second was what the book recommended- an earlier bedtime.  Worked like a charm after three or four days!  DS used to go to bed between 8-8:30 and now he's in bed between 7-7:30 and sleeps until 6:30 or 7.
